Our Firm

At Salter Law LLC, we prefer a personable approach and hearing about your life journey.

  • ATTORNEY-AT-LAW & FIRM OWNER

For more than 25 years, David P. Salter has focused his firm’s practice area on estate planning for his Minnesota clients.

He chose estate planning because he enjoys hearing about their lives and how they want to spend them and how they want to pass down their legacy to their loved ones. He also enjoys preventing future conflict by ensuring everyone’s needs are met during the planning process.

David is well versed in what does and doesn’t work with estate planning strategies and will make sure you have the proper planning, funding and maintenance to achieve your goals.

  • From 1992-2015, David P. Salter worked with Frank W. Heers, also an estate planning attorney and founder of Heers & Heers in St. Paul, MN.

The Heers Law firm limited its practice to estate and business succession planning and serviced clients in the Twin Cities metro area and in greater Minnesota market.

They were a pioneer in planning for family cabins and recreational property. As cabin planning experts, they provided cabin trust webinars to members of the Minnesota Lakes & Rivers Advocates association and at local trade shows.

In July 2015, David acquired the firm from Frank Heers so that Frank could assist his family with their residential building business.

In Aug 2015, David renamed the firm to Salter Law LLC and is proud to continue serving his past clients and engaging with new clients in his solo practice.

How We Differ

Simply put, our 25 years of estate planning experience and our personal approach differentiate us from other firms.

Free complimentary Initial meeting, house calls, fixed and affordable fees, funding services, annual maintenance programs, convenient location, personalized service are just some of the ways we provide superior customer experience to our clients.

  • David is an experienced attorney who has seen the issues that can arise with estate plans that didn’t have the proper planning strategy or that weren’t properly funded or maintained.

He ensures your estate plan works and takes into account all aspects of your estate and personal circumstances - tailoring it to your unique needs.

  • We know you are busy. You want to get your plan in place as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Most estate plans are complete within 4-8 weeks depending on your assets.

Our process is flexible to your schedule. David is easy to reach directly and offers appointments both online or in-person; at his Roseville MN office or at your house, for your convenience.

  • Knowing how much your estate plan will cost upfront gives you peace of mind.

David wants you to have an estate plan that works. He provides funding services to ensure your assets get titled appropriately so your estate plan reaches your loved ones as you intended.

Many firms hire this out. David’s 25 years of experience has taught him that its important to work directly with the financial institutions and planners himself to ensure the funding is completed properly.

Our Logo

We’re excited about our logo - the lob pine. It speaks to our “navigational guide” approach.

During the fur trade, Minnesota Voyageurs and indigenous tribes lobbed the branches off pine trees 1/3 from the top to mark significant or dangerous points along the rivers; making those areas easy to spot along the route.

The lob pines allowed the Minnesota Voyageurs and indigenous tribes to navigate the riverways successfully, ensuring safe passage to their destinations.

Like those lob pines, our firm guides you through those significant transitions in your life journey, and navigates you past common planning obstacles, to ensure your estate plan meets its goal – a safe and smooth passage of your assets onto your loved ones.

We want to thank Malley Design for bringing our mission to life with this lob pine logo.
